There seems to be a lot of people searching for the meaning of this phrase “Nice Panic” lately and clicking on my “Don’t Panic” post. I guess since there’s very little information about this phrase online, people are clicking on my post, even though it’s not the same phrase, in hopes of learning something about what this mystery phrase means.
最近、この「ナイスパニック」というフレーズの意味を検索して、私の「Don’t Panic」の投稿をクリックする人が多いようです。たぶんこのフレーズについてオンラインで情報があまりないため、この謎のフレーズが何を意味するのかを知るために、同じフレーズじゃないのに、私の投稿をクリックしています。
I’m a native English speaker, and I’m clueless about the meaning as well. Apparently, Nice Panic is the name of a brand shop owned by a rapper named PONEY MC in the Tokyo area. Who knows how he came up with the name, but it definitely isn’t a phrase I’ve ever heard used by a native speaker. You also won’t get any good results if you Google it in English. Most of the results that come up are about panic disorders, not the meaning of this phrase. Which means it probably doesn’t have any meaning except to the person who made it up and the people familiar with his brand.
英語をネイティブスピーカーですが、私もこの意味について全然分からないのです。どうやら、ナイスパニックは東京エリアのPONEY MCというラッパーが所有するブランドショップ名です。彼がどのようにしてこの名前を思いついたのかは全くわかりませんが、それは間違いなくネイティブスピーカーが使用したことを聞いたことのあるフレーズではありません。また、英語でグーグルで検索しても、役に立つ結果は出ません。出てくる結果のほとんどはパニック障害に関するものであり、このフレーズの意味ではないです。これはおそらく、作った人とブランドに精通している人以外には何の意味もないことを意味します。
To me it seems to be just a made up nonsense phrase. This is quite common with band and brand names in Japan, as well as abroad. Nothing wrong with that. It sounds pretty cool to me, actually a lot better than many nonsense English phrase based brand names I’ve heard in Japan. But, I guess it might be confusing to some people who aren’t familiar enough with English to know that’s it’s nonsense.
私にはそれは単なるナンセンスなフレーズのようです。これは、日本だけでなく海外のバンド名やブランド名でもよく見られます。何も悪いことはありません。私には結構カッコよく聞こえて、実際、日本で聞いたナンセンスなフレーズベースのブランド名よりもずっといいと思います。けど、それがそれがナンセンスであることを知るほど英語に十分に精通していない人にとって混乱するかもしれない。
Anyway, I guess that, even though it’s not a real phrase, I should go ahead and give you an obligatory example dialogue.
